open studio - kelly milton

Should you need a reason to head to Glenelg during summer, for example, to quaff prawns, view the sea and have a little glass of champers, feel free to include this studio/gallery on your agenda…
Alternately, you could make a weekend appointment, sip on a Coopers, look around the (recently catalogued) artwork in my home/studio/gallery, and I’ll recommend one of the many brilliant eateries etc. in the Bay for afterwards….
Another option is to buy a bit of art, I’ll give you a receipt, you can give the dog a ear-scratch, and I’ll shout a cab to the Bay for food and drinks…
Enjoy the silly season, and remember to do lots of silly things…when questioned, tell onlookers it’s performance art…

Mark Kimber - Moonrise 2 to 25 Nov

2 to 25 November 2007 Opening 6pm Friday 2 November
Greenaway Art Gallery, 39 Rundle Street, Kent Town, South Australia
Moonrise exhibition by Mark Kimber presents large-scale colour photographic works exploring the urban landscape by moonlight.
Camera time stretches beyond the moment-by-moment time in which we see, revealing a world impossible to know through our own consciousness. The works present an unseen world of compressed time and unworldly colour glowing with a light only photography can perceive. These are images that hum with a sense of mystery and promise while picturing a world from a parallel dimension, always present but imperceptible to our vision.

artEast 2007 Maras Group Critic’s Award Winner

The winner of the $1,000 Maras Group Critic’s Award was announced at the launch of artEast at the Bunka, The Austral on Thursday 4 October. Emerging artist Talia Wignall was presented with the Critic’s Award by Steve Maras of the Maras Group for her expressive paintings which are currently on display at Jah’z Lounge in Cinema Place off Rundle Street.

Tony Bond of AP Bond Art Gallery judged the award and said of Talia’s work, “Talia’s mixed media works hit a place with me. Her use of spatial void, sparing but well constructed imagery and just the right amount of emotion and colour made me choose her as the winner.”

artEast brings together art and commerce in artwork displays in cafes, restaurants and popular retail outlets in the city’s busy East End. The vibrant collection of original artworks by dynamic emerging South Australian artists are on display at The Austral Hotel, Chocolate Bean, Cocolat, Eckersleys, Jah’z Lounge, Rhino Room, Silver Shop and Tandanya until 2 November 2007.

Taylor and Talia Wignall. Works on display include painting, glass, jewellery, printmaking, sculpture and photography. A self-guided walking tour is available from the participating venues throughout the East End and online www.helpmann.sa.edu.au/events.html

On Tuesday 16 October selected venues will host a progressive dinner. Participants can enjoy a four-course dinner at four different venues with chef specialties and selected wine pairings, while viewing artworks and meeting the artists and being entertained by live performers from the Helpmann Academy’s partner schools.
