6.45pm  at the PALACE CINEMA,  Rundle Street East.

                      “KITE RUNNER”

Tickets:  $12 or $10 concession - book yours now

Here are 3 descriptions of the film:

- An Afghani man, now living in America, returns to Afghanistan to find a child. In doing so, he hopes to find forgiveness for choices he made when he was young. However, the Afghanistan he returns to is now controled by the Taliban, and finding the child becomes a rescue mission.

- An epic tale of fathers and sons, of friendship and betrayal, that takes us from the final days of Afghanistan’s monarchy to the atrocities of the present. After spending years in California, Amir returns to his homeland in Afghanistan to help his old friend Hassan, whose son is in trouble. Based on the novel “The Kite Runner” by Khaled Hosseini.

- A Great Tale  (giving 4.5 stars)

Beautifully shot. Wonderful story. A rare insight into Afghani culture - beyond the view we receive from commercial news. A story that carries through times in history that seem far away yet are not.   Has encouraged an appreciation of the wonderful world of kite flying! Simply, a must see.

Rated:  [M]  Moderate themes and violence, infrequent moderate coarse language.

Please come along — bring your friends — see an important film and give us your support.

Nissan Moonlight Cinema

Nissan Moonlight Cinema

SUMMER 2007/08

This week’s line-up promises night after night of charming leading men, followed at week’s end by one stellar woman from a grandmotherly era. And so it is with grandmotherly women in mind that we offer up this week’s Moonlight Recipe of Choice: the humble homemade scone.

Prepared in under 10 minutes and packed in a slightly damp tea towel (preferably gingham), scones are best consumed in the company of charming dames…with great dollops of cream. When was the last time you took your Nan to the movies, anyway?

Bomb Harvest

TWO SCREENINGS ONLY THIS SATURDAY & SUNDAY- at NORTH (Palace)
Saturday & Sunday November 17 & 18 at 4.40pm
Tickets now on sale

As well on both days, Silk Lotus will display and have for sale original handmade textiles and jewellery from Laos. Silk Lotus supports local Laos communities and specifically sponsors two young women furthering their education in the capital Vientiane. www.silklotus.com.au

35 years after the Secret War in Laos, the bombs remain.

Over 35 years ago, during the Vietnam War, American bombs rained down on Laos in the ‘Secret War’, leaving it the most bombed country in history. The deadly legacy of this destruction continues, with the country still scattered with unexploded ordance.

A huge live bomb is found behind a village school and straight-talking Australian bomb disposal specialist Laith Stevens arrives to check it out. He’s in the process of training a new ‘big bomb’ team, so reluctantly leaves it until the team is up to the task. Reluctant, because rural poverty has triggered a brisk trade in bomb scrap metal that the local children are increasingly drawn to.

Bomb Harvest vividly depicts the consequences of war and the unimaginable bravery of those trying to clear up the mess.  This timely story is terrifying and yet filled with eccentric characters and moments of humour, and gives us a fresh and lyrical view of the most bombed country on the planet.
