GENTICORUM (CANADA)

Genticorum are fast becoming one of the most sought-after proponents of Quebecois musical culture, firmly rooted in the soil of their native land. Weaving wooden flute, fiddle, acoustic guitar, jaw harp, bass and foot percussion with strong vocal harmonies, they offer a blend of traditional songs and original compositions.

Their distinctive sound, sense of humour and stage presence make them a supreme crowd pleaser. Since their debut in 2000, Genticorum has forged a solid place for itself on the folk and world music circuit, playing festivals, concerts and dances. Their sophomore album ‘Malins Plaisirs’ (2005, Roues et Archets/Fusion III) won the Canadian Folk Music Award 2005 in the “Best Ensemble” category and was nominated for JUNO (Canada) and Felix (Québec) Awards in 2006. Their songs, with glorious 3 part harmonies, tend to the ribald and amusing. Great music - and great fun! Adults $25 Con $20 Ch $15.

Thursday 6 March 8PM (doors at 7:30)

CECILE CORBEL (FRANCE)

Imagine a red haired Celt from Brittany, with a voice that hovers between Kate Bush (easily reaching those higher registers), the purity of Sinead O Connor and the mysticism of Enya, you’ll have a good idea what this remarkable young harpist, arranger of traditional songs and original songwriter sounds like. Originally playing the guitar, she discovered the Celtic harp in her teens. Concert after concert in Parisian pubs and cafés, she self-produces her album “ Songbook 1” and is soon noticed by the label Keltia Musique (Sinead O’Connor, Loreena Mc Kennit). Her unique harp technique and her appealing young voice, sometimes compared to Kate Bush’s, reveal a world encompassing ancient poems, original compositions, Celtic tunes and Mediterranean melodies. She takes you for a trip out of a time. “Cécile Corbel sings like a nightingale” Libération. Adults $25 Con $20 Ch $15

Wednesday 12 March 8PM (doors at 7:30)

GUY DAVIS (USA)

Like the best early bluesmen, Guy Davis is, at heart, a storyteller. A master at setting intimate, richly nuanced tales to stomping acoustic blues backing, with accompaniment from mandolin, banjo, and accordion, he helped revitalize the state of country blues in the 1990s with a string of critically acclaimed albums. Whether Guy Davis is appearing on ‘Late Night With Conan O’Brien’ or nationally syndicated radio programs such as Garrison Keillor’s, ‘A Prairie Home Companion’, ‘Mountain Stage’ or David Dye’s,’World Café’, in front of 15,000 people on the Main Stage of a major festival, or teaching an intimate gathering of students at a Music Camp, Guy feels the instinctive desire to give each listener his ‘all’. The routes, and roots, of his blues are as diverse as the music form itself. It can be soulful, moaning out a people’s cry, or playful and bouncy as a hay-ride. He’s a musician, composer, actor, director, and writer. But most importantly, Guy Davis is a bluesman. Adults $28 Con $25 Ch $20

Thu and Fri 13 and 14 March 8PM (doors at 7:30)

JEANETTE WORMALD – SONGS OF THE INLAND – Where red Earth and Blue Sky Meet

One of the hit shows of the Adelaide Cabaret Festival, ‘Songs of the Inland’ is a musical and visual journey into inland Australia through the original songs of Jeanette Wormald. Incorporating words & imaginings from the Pitjantjatjara and Ngarrindjeri peoples of South Australia with Jeanette’s trademark haunting images & music from her Mallee / Riverland life, this is an event not to be missed. And especially for the Fringe, Jeanette, backed by a full band, is presenting the show as a multi-media theatrical presentation for the first time, performing her songs against a backdrop of imagery and photographs celebrating inland Australia. Adult $25 Con $22

Parallel Lines: Exhibition

Parallel Lines: An exhibition by Rossanne Pellegrino and Tai Spruyt

La Bohème, 36 Grote Street  Adelaide

Opening: 2 Mar 2008, 3pm - 5pm  Exhibition Dates:  2 Mar – 31 Mar 2008.

Parallel Lines is a product of two artists living within two very separate geographical boundaries, capturing moments in time through evocative photographic imagery.   Exploring communities, cultures and the surroundings in which these things belong, the artists’ highlight the differences, and by the same token, the similarities, between two very different locations.

The works featured in Parallel Lines are sensitive in nature and appearance, resembling modern day paintings; the artists’ use of Polaroid SX-70 film lends to this surreal and dream like quality which their photographs possess.

This is their tale of two cities; of a place called Adelaide and another called London.

from March 2nd, all work can be viewed and purchased on www.weareallartists.co.uk
