Murray Floyd’s idea was a simple one: why not get some guys from your local, put a band together and play a few gigs out the back of the pub on Sunday afternoons? The band was to play original rockin’ country material and was all about having a good time. And so twelve months ago “Austin Floyd” was born, with all four members recruited from the front bar of Fitzroy’s legendary Standard Hotel. http://www.austinfloyd.com/

THE LAST TO SEE THEM ALIVE: Sex, Slaughter & the City
A performance event by U N R E A S O N A B L E A D U L T S.
Text by Fiona Sprott. Music by Jason Sweeney. Performance by Caroline Daish.
A new theatre work that treads the fine line between the hyped-up world of Sex & the City and the nasty underworld of Law & Order: Special Victims Unit.
“How do you meet Mr Right in an age of Serial Killers?”
The work is an unsettling mix of monologue, music, song, video confession, direct audience address and live acts of transgression.
A romantic suspense; a seduction; an invitation to watch a crime unfold…whilst probing this rather disturbing thought: is it ethical to take pleasure in the deaths of others for the sake of entertainment?

Dir: Sérgio Machado, Brazil, 2005, 35mm, 98min
Deco and Naldhino are best friends and petty hustlers who scratch together a living delivering cargo around the port city of Salvador in a motor boat they co-own. When they offer a ride to Karinna, an exotic dancer and occasional prostitute, they are drawn into a passionate ménage à trios. Before long jealousy and obsession tears apart their bond and forces them onto the vibrant but violent streets of the city where they must now try to survive on their own.
An impressive feature debut from documentary maker Sérgio Machado in collaboration with renowned writer/producer/director Walter Salles, the creative team behind Madame Satã.
“a visual delight… vivid and visceral… a high octane drama in the same school as Latin American crowd pleasers Amores Perros and City of God.” Paul Julian Smith, Sight & Sound
“a violent, passionate, erotic film with a steamy atmosphere that hits you in the face like an unwashed bar-cloth from a backstreet dive.” Philip French, The Observer
Winner of Award of the Youth, Cannes Film Festival 2005.
