Mythst Time an exhibition of Printmaking 1-22 sep

by        Maria Bray        Deborah Miller                Diana Rennison        Annette Vincent
Opens: Friday 1 September 2006 at 6pm

pepper street, 558 magill rd
Special Performance: Susan Brame, Performance Artist & Comedian accompanied by Matt Benjamin on percussion
Mythst Time is an exhibition by four printmakers who use different methods with very diverse imagery. The theme of mythology and the Australian Landscape is a focus for each of these artists.
Maria Bray’s work focuses on prehistoric Australia with appreciation directed towards the ancient fauna’s existence.
Diana Rennison’s linocuts celebrate the time she spent walking in fabulous rainforests in Australia and New Zealand. Through her work she hopes to encourage others to admire and preserve our unique and ancient landscape with its vast array of flora.
Annette Vincent’s work concentrates on environmental issues where she says “if we continue to daydream and do nothing, then we have missed saving another species and the great River Red Gums will become another Australian Myth.”
Deborah Miller’s work is an interesting exploration of the Bunyip and how it has been represented in various mythologies.
The Exhibition concludes on Friday 22 September 2006.

South Australia’s Trees For Life is urgently calling for an extra 400 volunteer growers to help them reach their annual target of growing more than one million local native seedlings. Volunteers don’t need experience - all that’s required is for volunteers to have a sunny spot in their backyard and a commitment to the seedlings. RODIN: Genius of Form

RODIN: Genius of Form, an exhibition showcasing the largest collection of Rodin sculpture in the southern hemisphere. The exhibition features the Gallery’s major collection of twenty sculptures by Auguste Rodin (1840-1917) and includes a rare small scale bronze of his most famous work, The Thinker on loan from a private collection.

Art Gallery Director, Christopher Menz says, “we are very proud that Adelaide is home to the largest Rodin collection outside France, Japan and the USA. This special exhibition gives us the chance to bring the entire collection together in one stunning display for the first time since the works were acquired a decade ago”.

The Rodin sculptures in the state’s collection were acquired in 1996 through the generous patronage of William Bowmore AO OBE by the South Australian Government, and with the assistance of the Art Gallery of South Australia Foundation. Dr Bowmore is one of the most generous benefactors to the Gallery’s international collections.

A number of special events have been scheduled to complement the exhibition, including a tour and wine tasting with the Alliance Française on Sunday 3 September; a series of bronze casting workshops; and a piano recital by renowned composer Stephen Whittington on 24 September featuring music of the period as well as new work inspired by Rodin.

RODIN: Genius of Form will be on view daily until 18 February 2007.
Tickets:
Adults $8, Concession $6, Members and Students $5, U16 free.
