BLOOM a co-curated installation by Lisa Harms, Anna Hughes and Kaylie Weir 29 apr

29 April - 21 May 2006
Queens Theatre, Playhouse Lane, Adelaide

Opening  1-3pm Saturday 29th April
Bloom will deal in an innovative way with the notion of dis-ease: the proliferation of cells as a pathological growth takes hold, the proliferation of affect as desire escalates, the proliferation of intensity as interest becomes obsession.
The title Bloom has both positive and negative connotations, referring equally to the flush of colour that may flood a face or an evening sky; the energetic spread of algal growth; buds erupting into flower; oil on water; paint on porous surface. Containment and release, growth and decay, pleasure and sorrow, fascination and longing will be evoked in the vast, moody spaces of the Queens Theatre through a combination of paintings, sculptural works, dvd and slide projections, video and
soundworks.
The artists in Bloom are all graduates of the Visual Art Masters program at the South Australian School of Art - a partner school of the Helpmann Academy.
Open Hours 11am - 3pm Wednesday to Sunday

DEATH CAB FOR CUTIE

Australian Tour July 2006 ON
SALE FRIDAY 5th MAY
Seattle’s finest and the master craftsmen of indie pop, DEATH CAB FOR CUTIE  (or ‘Death Cab’ to their friends), are on their way to Australia.
“Plans” is their fifth album and after it’s release in August 2005 it was nominated for a Grammy award and has since been certified Gold in the
United States and Canada (over 650,000 & 70,000 sold respectively).
GQ Magazine describes “Plans” as the sound of summer fading into fall” and Interview calls it “a masterful continuation of the Death Cab diaspora.”In a busy year since the release, Death Cab have balanced extensive touring commitments with a huge media schedule including appearances on Saturday Night Live, The Late Show with David Letterman and Late Night With Conan O’Brien. You may also have heard their music on the hit television shows “Six Feet Under” and “The OC.”
They are currently on a sold out, co-headline tour of the
US with Franz Ferdinand and on the live front we are very pleased to announce this Australian tour.
Their first and only trip to
Australia was in the summer of 2003 when they supported Something For Kate just prior to the release of their indie classic album ‘Transatlanticism’ so this trip is long overdue.
