CHICO MACMURTRIE / AMORPHIC ROBOT WORKS - RESIDENCY - WORKSHOP - EXHIBITION - PRESENTATIONS

EXPERIMENTAL ART FOUNDATION and the ADELAIDE BANK FESTIVAL OF ARTS 2006 present
CHICO MACMURTRIE / AMORPHIC ROBOT WORKS
ROBOTIC ARTS, INFLATABLE AESTHETICISM
RESIDENCY - WORKSHOP - EXHIBITION - PRESENTATIONS
Chico MacMurtrie is one of the world’s leading artists using robotic technologies and is Artistic Director of Amorphic Robot Works (ARW) - a New York-based group of artists, engineers and technicians working together to create robotic performances and installations. www.amorphicrobotworks.org
OPENING 6PM THURSDAY 2 MARCH
INFLATABLE BODIES: a new generation of robotic sculpture
Since its establishment in 1992, Amorphic Robot Works has investigated the nature of movement via the creation of multi-faceted machine-sculptures that play and interact in uniquely designed environments. ARW’s artistic program has resulted in the creation of more than 250 mechanical sculptures that assume anthropomorphic and abstract forms. A new generation of robotic sculptures from ARW eliminates the structural metal and its associated weight. Inflatable Bodies are computer-controlled robotic fabric sculptures capable of fluid movement and interaction with humans in dynamic, visceral new ways. This new robotic form is compelling - conforming neither to standard conceptions of robotics nor to existing understandings of kinetic sculpture. It gives rise to practically limitless potential for improvisational performance and interactive installation.
3-19 March: 10-5 Daily; 21 March-8 April: 11-5 Tues-Fri; 2-5 Sat.
WORKSHOP: the creation of robotic arts
The Robotic Arts Workshop, led by Chico MacMurtrie working with ARW members, Janette Wernegreen and Ven Voisey, serves as a practical and theoretical platform for the creation of new generations of robotic sculpture and installation. Drawn from national registration, the workshop assists in the creation of robotic arts by Australian artists through providing hands-on exploration, working with Chico MacMurtrie and ARW to build the robotic sculptures for exhibition. 24 February-7March. Registrations closed.
PRESENTATIONS
4-6pm Monday 6 March Public lecture by Chico MacMurtrie, Mercury Cinema, Lion Arts Centre, 13 Morphett Street, Adelaide.

jive mar-apr

Wednesday 1st March Pretty Girls Make Graves (USA), The Gossip (USA), My Sister The Cop Doors 8pm - Tix $34 + b/fee through CIB & Jive or $40 at the door if not sold out
Thursday 2nd March Les Savy Fav (USA), The Hold Steady (USA), Thunderbirds Are Now! (USA) Doors 8pm - Tix $34 + b/fee through CIB & Jive or $40 at the door if not sold out
Friday 3rd March The Most Massive Woman Wins - 6pm
BOB LOG III (USA), The Gels - 9pm

That’s right folks, he’s back! Bob Log the third is a one-man band that defies explanations. His kingdom is of this Earth and specifically -at least in spirit- stored in a rusty Delta trailer with great swamp views. He puts the “Tonka” back in honky-tonk and the roll back in “R&R.” You do not want to come late and miss this. You do not want to explain this. You do not want it to end.

He wears a helmet and a spacesuit, and carries out his desire to get girls in every town to sit in his lap while his monkey-paw flies across his guitar with lightning speed. There is very little in this world that can compare to Bob Log III.
Granted, Log could shed all those gags and novelties and still make a decent living as a working musician. He’s that good a slide guitarist. Yes, he could lose them all, but the helmet and kick cymbal and everything else are more than gags and novelties. They’re more like icons and rituals in his liturgy - Log’s way of celebrating his belief in what music is supposed to be: primal, sexual, humorous, impromptu, entertaining.
If you only see one show this Fringe, let this be it!
