his world of unmade beds and other bad habits. DOGS IN SPACE boasts an impressive soundtrack with songs from Iggy Pop, Gang of Four, Nick
Cave, Ollie Olsen, Michael Hutchence and the Little Bands.

RAWA gift certificates

At this time of the year, you may be searching for Christmas gifts for friends and loved ones, many of whom seem to have everything they need.
Here is an option you might like to consider: buying a part of a lifeline for an Afghan orphan girl, on their behalf.
RAWA (http://www.rawa.org), the inspirational feminist, Afghan, women’s organisation that has been working for women and girls in Afghanistan and the refugee camps of Pakistan since 1977 has many orphaned girls who are in great need of support. Afghanistan remains a country of extreme hardship,
despite little information of Afghans’ plight being reported in the media and Afghan women and girls remain amongst the most disadvantaged, insecure and poorest of any around the globe. Also, the basic human rights we take for granted are still a pipedream for the majority of women and girls.
A gift to a RAWA orphan is a gift of life and the possibility of a better future. A girl in a RAWA orphanage receives not just food and somewhere to live but the chance to be educated by RAWA teachers, where the empowerment of girls is a priority and tolerance, inclusiveness and caring for others are key aspects of the educational experience. Afghanistan can well do with RAWA educated girls: leaders of the future.
A gift voucher for ANY AMOUNT is available but some suggestions are:
$25       Cost of food, clothes and education  for one child for ONE WEEK
$50       Cost of food, clothes and  education  for one child for ONE FORTNIGHT
$100     Cost of food, clothes and education  for one child for ONE MONTH
If you are able to forward this information to others who might be interested, it would be very much appreciated.
For further information or to purchase a voucher, please contact:

Garry Duncan - a retrospective 20 nov-8 jan

NEW LAND GALLERY - Thursday 1 December, 2005 at 6pm

 To be opened by:

Mr Steven Riley, General Manager of the South Australian Museum with Guest Speaker Dr Graham Williams, Lifeflow Meditation Centre

 EXHIBITION DATES: 20 November 2005 - 8 January 2006

This exhibition is a profile of an environmentalist and artist with painting, sculpture, textile and design from the last 30 years.

Garry Duncan has lived on South Australia’s Murray River, most of his life. His paintings capture the essence of the natural environment in strong colour, texture and design. Rich in detail they make powerful statements.

Garry has exhibited throughout Australia and overseas, with at least one solo or major show a year since 1977 as well as participation in many joint exhibitions and events. He has worked on numerous commissions of major public works throughout Australia as well as wine labels, illustrations and book covers. He is a frequent guest artist and speaker for environmental projects and was a member of the judging panel for the 2004 Waterhouse Prize.

He has been a consistent supporter of wetlands conservation and uses his artwork to create visions of how the land once looked and may look again if pollution and degradation ceased.

get politics out of medicine

In the next two weeks Parliament will have a crucial opportunity to get politics out of medicine.
In Australia, decisions about the availability of all medicines are made by the experts at the Therapeutic Goods Adminstration (TGA) - except for one.
Bizarrely, since 1996, the Federal Health Minister has become the only person who can approve pharmaceuticals, such as RU 486, that can be used to end pregnancies. Medicine has been placed at the whim of politics.
Today GetUp and Reproductive Choice Australia have launched a national campaign to take the regulation of RU486 out of the hands of politicians, and place it back in the hands of the impartial medical experts at the TGA.
Please click the link below to sign your name to support this important campaign.

Million Mothers March dec 2 canberra

Million Mothers March

 Reject Howard’s Christmas presents!

Unite to give each other support

Friday 2 December 2005 – 12 noon on Parliament lawn, Canberra

10 years ago the Million Man March of protest and unity converged on Washington DC .

Now it’s the turn of all Australians who don’t accept the Howard’s government’s proposed laws on Workplace Relations, Welfare and Terrorism to show our faces and our feelings.

Why Mothers?  Many of us are mothers.  Most of us had mothers.  Mothers will be disproportionately damaged by the Welfare and Workplace changes.  But not only mothers.  Millions of people in will be adversely affected by these unmandated inhumane laws.

And with the Terrorism sedition provisions you will lose the right to even read about it!

Mothers, fathers, kids, people will have to work in even more substandard conditions and for even less money.  Individual workers will lose their rights to get together and act for each other.

The Government wants to push all of these changes through by Christmas.

What a wonderful selection of presents for mothers, children, and people who are disabled, pensioners, workers, or unemployed!

Unwrap the packaging and what do you get?    All this legislation has horrible consequences – not unforeseen either.  Anyone can see the disadvantages sole parents and their children will suffer under the wicked Welfare to Woe package.  It won’t just mean losing out on payments.  People will lose current benefits such as health care cards, transport concessions, and access to public housing.  Parents in particular -will end up being minus almost everything except the kids they are trying to look after!

Anyone who has a heart – anyone who had a mother or has been a child – anyone who is half way human – come and march on Parliament House Canberra this Friday 2 December 2005.  We will convene at high noon – 12 midday on the lawn outside the public entrance.

If you want to help with transport or discuss this idea, please contact Ariel, by email at mongrielle@bigpond.com or phone 02 9326 2960 or 0411 852 452
